Serious Science. Bad Jokes. Aaryn DuBose Takes on Vet Candy’s Brain Smarts
If you have not listened to Vet Candy's Brain Smarts podcast yet, here is your orientation: it is part news show, part trivia hour, part chaos, hosted by the husband-and-wife duo Clay and Caitlin Palmer, who bring an alarming amount of energy and very bad jokes to every single episode. Serious science. Terrible puns. Zero apologies.
This week's guest fit the room perfectly.
Meet Aaryn DuBose
Aaryn DuBose is a fourth-year student at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, and if you are looking for someone who is simply attending veterinary school, you have the wrong person.
While most students are managing coursework and clinical rotations, DuBose is managing all of that plus a leadership portfolio that would make most practicing veterinarians tired just reading it. He runs the core lab in the biomedical research department at TUCVM. He serves as Class of 2027 President. He is Vice President-Elect of SAVMA — the Student American Veterinary Medical Association, the largest veterinary student organization in the country. And he is Vice President of the Veterinary Surgery Club.
That is not a resume padding exercise. That is someone who decided early that veterinary school was not just a credential to survive but a platform to use.
Why This Episode Is Worth Your Time
Brain Smarts is not your average veterinary podcast and Aaryn DuBose is not your average guest. What Clay and Caitlin do well is get people talking — really talking — past the polished version of themselves they lead with on a CV. Expect DuBose to bring that same energy here: thoughtful, direct, and clearly someone who has thought hard about what this profession is, what it could be, and who gets to be a part of it.
Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine is one of the most significant institutions in veterinary education — the only HBCU with an accredited veterinary program — and DuBose carries that context with intention. His presence in leadership roles at the national student level matters beyond his own career. It signals something about where this profession is going.
