Beginning with the October to November 2026 testing window, the exam moves to a new format: twelve blocks of thirty questions in place of six blocks of sixty. What’s new for NAVLE?
Here's the current picture for the NAVLE, including the October changes:
Testing windows (2026–2027 cycle)
There are three testing windows per year:
October 12 – November 14, 2026
March 1 – March 20, 2027
July 12 – August 7, 2027
Application deadlines run about 6-7 weeks before each window opens (e.g., the October–November 2026 application window opened June 1 and closes July 15, 2026). Appointments at Prometric centers are first-come, first-served, so earlier registration means more flexibility on date/time/location.
What's new starting October 2026
The structural change is significant: the NAVLE is moving from six blocks of 60 questions each to twelve blocks of 30 questions each. The total number of questions stays exactly the same — 360 items, and the content of the exam is not changing. It's purely a delivery/format change.
