VEG ER for Pets Earns 2027 Great Place To Work Certification

VEG ER for Pets has once again been recognized for its workplace culture, earning Great Place To Work® Certification for the third year in a row. The certification is based on feedback directly from current employees about their experience working at the veterinary emergency care company. This year, 83% of VEG employees said the organization is a great place to work, compared with 53% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company.

For a veterinary profession continuing to wrestle with burnout, retention, staffing shortages, and workplace culture, the results offer an interesting look at what employees say they value in their work environment. Great Place To Work is a global organization focused on workplace culture and employee experience. Unlike awards selected by an outside judging panel, its certification process relies heavily on confidential employee feedback.

“Great Place To Work Certification is a highly coveted achievement that requires consistent and intentional dedication to the overall employee experience,” said Sarah Lewis-Kulin, Vice President of Global Recognition at Great Place To Work.

She noted that the recognition reflects employees’ real-time perceptions of their workplace culture.

VEG founder, CEO, and veterinarian Dr. David Bessler said earning the recognition for a third consecutive year is particularly meaningful because it comes directly from the company's employees, known internally as “VEGgies.”

As VEG continues to expand, Bessler said maintaining its workplace culture remains an important part of that growth.

Why workplace culture matters in veterinary medicine

Employee experience has become an increasingly important conversation across veterinary medicine, particularly as hospitals compete to recruit and retain veterinarians, veterinary technicians, assistants, and client-service professionals.

Great Place To Work research suggests employees at Certified workplaces are 93% more likely to look forward to coming to work. The organization also reports that job seekers are 4.5 times more likely to find what they consider a great boss at a Certified workplace.Employees at Certified companies are also more likely to report feeling fairly compensated and having a fair opportunity for advancement. For veterinary employers, those factors can have implications beyond recruitment. A workplace where employees feel supported, respected, and able to grow may also help organizations build stronger teams and retain experienced veterinary professionals.
