Vet School After Dark Is Here: Meet Vet Candy’s New Student-Led Podcast
Veterinary school has plenty of official voices. Professors. Administrators. Specialists. Advisors. Admissions teams. What it does not always have is a place where students can talk honestly about what the experience actually feels like while they are living it.
That is the idea behind Vet School After Dark, Vet Candy’s new veterinary student-led podcast, and the first episode is officially here.
Hosted by veterinary students JC, Jeremiah, Jess, and Kennedi, the show was created to give students a space to talk about the parts of veterinary school that do not always make it into lectures, orientation sessions, or perfectly polished social media posts.
The stress. The money. The relationships. The externships. The uncertainty. The funny moments. The hard conversations. And everything that happens after class when students are trying to figure out how to build a life while becoming veterinarians.
A Veterinary Student Podcast Led by Veterinary Students
There are plenty of podcasts about veterinary medicine, but Vet School After Dark is different because the conversation starts with students themselves.
The hosts are not looking back on veterinary school years later. They are in it now.
That means listeners get conversations shaped by what students are actually experiencing in real time, from exams and clinical rotations to career decisions, finances, wellness, friendships, and the pressure that can come with veterinary education.
The goal is not to make vet school sound harder than it is or easier than it is.
It is simply to make it real.
The First Episode Gets Real Fast
The debut episode starts with the kind of conversation you would expect when friends reconnect after summer break.
The group catches up on externships, travel, what everyone did over the summer, and what they are looking forward to as another academic year begins. Kennedi is fresh off an externship in Miami and, understandably, is not completely thrilled about leaving the beach behind.
But the episode quickly moves into a subject that deserves much more attention in veterinary education: food insecurity among veterinary students.
The hosts talk about what happens when tuition, rent, transportation, school expenses, and everyday life leave very little money for groceries.
They also talk about something equally important: asking for help.
Food pantries, university resources, emergency assistance, community programs, and other forms of support are there to be used. Students should not have to feel ashamed for needing them.
It is exactly the type of conversation Vet School After Dark was created to have.
More Than Another Vet School Podcast
Future episodes will explore the realities of veterinary school from every angle.
That means conversations about relationships, finances, mental health, clinical rotations, studying, career decisions, externships, wellness, and the strange experience of trying to become a doctor while still figuring out adulthood.
Some episodes will be serious.
Some will probably get ridiculous.
Most will be a little of both.
And because the hosts come from different veterinary schools and different stages of the veterinary education experience, the conversations will not represent just one campus or one version of vet school.
A New Voice for the Next Generation of Veterinarians
Veterinary students are entering a profession that is changing quickly.
They are thinking differently about careers, work-life balance, mentorship, money, mental health, technology, practice ownership, and what they want their lives in veterinary medicine to look like.
Those conversations deserve a platform.
