Hill's Pet Nutrition Introduces New Therapeutic Diets for Pets with Kidney Disease and Sensitivities

Hill's Pet Nutrition has announced the launch of two new veterinary therapeutic diets designed for dogs and cats managing chronic kidney disease alongside food-related skin or gastrointestinal sensitivities.

The new products, Hill's Prescription Diet k/d + Derm Complete for dogs and Hill's Prescription Diet k/d + z/d Hydrolyzed for cats, are now available through veterinary recommendation. According to the company, the diets were developed to address multiple health concerns within a single nutritional formulation.

Managing chronic kidney disease can be challenging when pets also require specialized diets for adverse food reactions or digestive sensitivities. Traditionally, veterinarians have had limited options that simultaneously target kidney support and food sensitivity management. Hill's says the new formulations are intended to help bridge that gap.

Both diets contain reduced levels of phosphorus and sodium, omega-3 fatty acids, and high-quality protein sources formulated to support kidney health and maintain muscle condition. The products also include ActivBiome+ Kidney Defense, a proprietary prebiotic fiber blend designed to support the gut microbiome.

For dogs, Prescription Diet k/d + Derm Complete incorporates a single novel animal protein source and is formulated to support skin health, digestion, and kidney function. For cats, Prescription Diet k/d + z/d Hydrolyzed contains highly hydrolyzed proteins intended to minimize immune responses associated with food sensitivities while providing nutritional support for kidney disease.

The products are available in both dry and wet food formats. Hill's noted that the wet formulations provide combined kidney and sensitivity support within its therapeutic nutrition portfolio.

The launch reflects a broader trend in veterinary nutrition toward addressing multiple concurrent conditions through diet. As pets live longer and receive more advanced medical care, veterinarians increasingly encounter patients with overlapping health concerns that may require complex nutritional management.

Pet owners interested in these diets are encouraged to consult with their veterinarian to determine whether the products are appropriate for their pet's specific medical needs.

Hill's Pet Nutrition, headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas, develops therapeutic and wellness nutrition products for dogs and cats and distributes its products globally through veterinary clinics and pet specialty retailers.
