Impact of human presence on shelter animals
This study looked at the potential effect of human presence and voice on the behavior of shelter dogs. They compared behavioral responses of single-housed dogs and cats in shelter to a pre-recorded reading with or without an unfamiliar human presence and without physical contact. A total of fourteen dogs and twenty-one cats were observed in the study in both described conditions. The study found higher interaction during the recording in both cats and dogs during the condition with a human present, although signs of frustration related to the inability for physically interaction were also seen.
