Why we are crossing our fingers for Dr. Linda Meakin

Ohio native, Dr. Linda Meakin took an unusual route to veterinary school.  After being told by a counselor that veterinary school was “too hard to get into”, she chose to complete a graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Doctorate in Nursing, following a BS in biology.  However, her first love was working with animals.  So, after a year as a pediatric nurse in a NICU step down unit, she decided to go for her true calling and applied and was later accepted to veterinary school.

During her senior year at Ohio State, she started breeding “Pulik”-Pulik being the plural form of Puli. Pulik are herder breeds, known for their naturally occurring cords. According to the AKC, they also are remarkably agile and light on their feet, earning a reputation as the “acrobat of the dog world.”

Around 2010, she started showing the breed as a owner-handler, first at local shows and then national.  In 2017, her current leading dog, Fred, was born, and by the time he was 1 year old, he was a Grand Champion.  This year mark’s Dr. Linda’s second invitation to Westminster with Fred.

Dr. Linda and her veterinary husband, Dr. Dan Meakin, are owners of All Creatures Animal Hospital with three locations in Ohio.

You can cheer Dr. Linda on by watching her on Sunday at 1:30pm EST on Madison Square Gardens Ring 4.
