Do you know all the facts about otitis externa?

Otitis externa is an inflammation of the external auditory canal from the pinna to the tympanic membrane commonly observed in dogs and sometimes in cats. Clinical signs include inflammation, soreness and pain, foul odor, ear discharge, ear scratching, and head shaking. Chronic cases can lead to closure of the ear canal, chronic pain and deafness.

Otitis externa is one of the most common presenting complaints in veterinary medicine, in fact, one study estimated the incidence rate to be close to 16%. It is also one of the most frustrating – for practitioners and pet owners alike.

In this show, New Jersey veterinary dermatologist, Dr. Allison Inga, gives us a thorough evaluation of otitis externa from diagnosis to treatment and prevention.

This complimentary program is brought to you by Merck Animal Health and is RACE/NYS approved for veterinary continuing education and CPD. See first comment for details!
