Minnesota's first neurology-dedicated pet clinic opens

Every second counts when a pet has an emergency. Whether a dog collapses from a spinal injury or a cat suffers a sudden seizure, families need immediate access to specialized care. On September 29, 2025, Minnesota Veterinary Neurology (MVN) will open its doors as the state’s first—and only—hospital focused entirely on neurology and neurosurgery, providing 24/7 care. This singular focus allows MVN to provide expertise, advanced technology, and continuous care under one roof, filling a critical gap in access to specialty services for pets across the region.

MVN will serve as an essential resource for primary and emergency veterinarians, as well as pet families across the Midwest. Located near Forest Lake, the hospital was created by board-certified veterinary neurologist Dr. Missy Carpentier, who has nearly a decade of experience serving Twin Cities pets and is recognized for her expertise in treating complex conditions.

The custom-built, 12,000-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art MRI, electrodiagnostics, gait analysis as well as a dedicated neurosurgical suite. A physical rehabilitation center—including an underwater treadmill—is available to support recovery for any pet recovering from injury, surgery, or chronic illness, and plays a particularly significant role for neurologic patients. The hospital’s specialized focus allows the team to provide care for seizures, intervertebral disk disease (IVDD), brain and spinal tumors, neuromuscular disorders, trauma, injuries, congenital conditions and more.

“Pets with neurologic disease need care that is immediate, specialized, and continuous. By dedicating our hospital solely to this area of medicine, we can provide a level of expertise, technology and focus that hasn’t been available in Minnesota before,” says Carpentier. “Our goal is to give pets the best chance at recovery, while giving families peace of mind.”

Beyond advanced medical care, MVN represents a new model for collaboration between specialists, referring veterinarians, and pet owners. By centralizing neurology expertise in one facility, MVN shortens wait times, expands access to specialized procedures, provides 24/7 emergency support, and reduces the burden on families.
