All Hail the Chief! Dr. Michael Bailey Is AVMA’s New President

Dr. Michael Q. Bailey has made history as the first Black president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), marking a major milestone in veterinary medicine. Overcoming the challenges of undiagnosed dyslexia and limited support, Dr. Bailey earned his DVM from Tuskegee University and went on to specialize in veterinary radiology. His career spans academia, telemedicine leadership, and advocacy for diversity in the profession. His election highlights both his personal achievements and the ongoing need for greater inclusion in veterinary medicine, following in the footsteps of trailblazers like Dr. William Waddell, the AVMA’s first Black member.
