Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Partners with Veterinary Hope Foundation to Support Vet Mental Health

Veterinary professionals face immense emotional and mental demands every day, caring for both animals and their owners. To help address this burden, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary has partnered with the Veterinary Hope Foundation (Vet Hope) to expand access to structured mental health resources for veterinarians and their teams nationwide.

The collaboration leverages the Pro Plan Veterinary Support Mission, launched in 2024, to remove barriers veterinarians often face in accessing emotional support. Through the partnership, Vet Hope will offer more community groups, quarterly webinars, and six-week online programs covering topics like self-care, resilience, mindfulness, healthy boundaries, and work-life integration.

A Persistent Need for Veterinary Mental Health Resources

Despite progress over the past decade, mental health challenges remain prevalent in veterinary medicine:

  • 92% of veterinary professionals report experiencing fatigue

  • Only 30% of veterinary team members feel they have effective coping strategies for stress

  • 60% of veterinarians indicate that mental health resources promoting stress reduction and self-care are highly desirable

Structured support specifically designed for the veterinary profession has historically been limited. Vet Hope, founded by veterinarians and mental health advocates, aims to fill this gap by providing sustained emotional support tailored to veterinary teams.

Expanding Access Through Partnership

Dr. Callie Harris, DVM, of Pro Plan Veterinary adds:

“By partnering with Vet Hope, we hope to cultivate a culture where well-being is prioritized and mental health resources are accessible, stigma-free, and integrated into the fabric of veterinary practice.”

Since its inception, the Pro Plan Veterinary Support Mission has contributed over $3.5 million to programs addressing veterinary stress, burnout, client financial barriers, and challenging pet care cases, underscoring a long-term commitment to supporting the profession.

Looking Ahead

This partnership provides veterinarians and veterinary teams with structured, accessible mental health resources, helping reduce emotional fatigue, prevent burnout, and foster resilience. In doing so, it strengthens not only the well-being of veterinary professionals but also the quality of care delivered to pets and their families.
