Grand Rapids-Based Vet Startup Aims to Expand with AI After Google Academy Acceptance
A Grand Rapids-based veterinary startup focused on at-home care is planning national expansion with the help of artificial intelligence and support from a major tech accelerator.
Vetr Health, a membership-based provider of mobile veterinary services, was recently selected to join the Google for Startups AI Academy: American Infrastructure, a four-month program designed to support early-stage companies using AI to solve complex challenges in critical sectors like health care, housing, and agriculture.
Founded in 2021, Vetr Health offers services such as in-home exams, vaccines, diagnostics, and telehealth. Clients pay a monthly membership fee to access care delivered directly in their homes. The company’s model is designed to reduce stress for both pets and owners while improving access for individuals who may face barriers to traditional veterinary care, such as mobility limitations.
The company is now developing an AI-powered operating system aimed at streamlining mobile veterinary practice. This technology is intended to help veterinarians manage the logistical and administrative challenges of house call services more efficiently and sustainably. Vetr Health leaders cite work-life balance, flexibility, and support for veterinarians as key motivations for investing in tech-enabled mobile medicine.
Through the Google AI program, Vetr Health will receive technical assistance, mentorship, and access to Google's global network to advance its AI infrastructure and diagnostics platform. The company was among 17 startups selected to participate in this cohort.
With support from the accelerator, Vetr Health aims to scale its model nationally and make mobile practice more accessible for veterinarians across the U.S.
