Three ways to stay in touch with long distance friends
One of the best things about traveling and living in new places is the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends from all around the country and the world. Unfortunately, this means that sometimes you end up living miles apart from some of your closest friends when life pulls you in different directions. Here are a few ways that I use to keep in contact with my friends who live far away.
Social media
Whether its Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, you name it – this is the easiest time in recent history to stay updated on what your friends are up to all the time. This also means that you can tag each other in memes, post #throwbackthursday with each other and enter those Instagram giveaways that happen all the time!
Video-chatting and phone calls
Whether you have an iPhone or Android, there are so many free apps that enable video-chatting across any device! Even old-fashioned phone calls are great to share stories and update one another on things that are happening in each of your lives. Nothing beats the feeling of having a best friend who randomly calls you to say hello and you end up chatting for hours – this can especially help with homesickness if they are a childhood friend!
Planned visits
This can be the most fun but also slightly challenging part of long-distance friendships. My best friend and I have been taking turns once a year to visit each other for about a week. We find a time that works for both our schedules and take turns buying flights
