Five ways to chill out after a stressful day

When classes have me particularly stressed and in my head some days, the first thing I do after class is get my mind completely off of anything pertaining to school – just for a little while! – to allow my brain to reset. I find that these five activities allow me to relax and slow down so when I revisit what had been giving me stress, it no longer seems so hard to handle!

Frozen yogurt

There is a chain “froyo” place that myself and my roommates would go to together to indulge on a little frozen treat! There are options for calorie conscious and dairy-free consumers as well so anyone can use this trick! Finding a small treat to reward yourself after a hard day is a great way to lift your spirits! Remember to celebrate your wins, no matter how small!

Yoga class

If you have a gym membership to a chain location, chances are they offer some sort of yoga classes during the day! These classes focus on body consciousness, breathing techniques and allowing your mind to develop self-awareness – all of which help to reduce stress and will allow you to relax from a busy day!

Take a scenic walk

Nothing quite compares to the feel of sand between your toes – or even fresh green grass! Our deep connection with nature is ever present in our lives, and sometimes we just need a little extra time to take in the beauty that surrounds us. Sometimes all you need is a breath of fresh air, a breeze through your hair, and the sun shining on your face!

Talk to family and/or friends

This one is particularly helpful if homesickness is the cause of your stressful day! Whether it’s a video chat or phone call, hearing and seeing a loved one’s familiar voice or face can be just what you need to feel closer to the ones who mean the most to you. They most likely will also be able to advise you on tough or stressful situations with their outside perspective!

Take a bubble bath

Find yourself a bath bomb, a candle and your favorite tv show/playlist/movie and draw a hot bath! The hot water will be very relaxing if you’re tired and sore, with the aromatherapy is heavenly!

Remember that there will be good and bad days, but you can always learn something from every experience! It’s okay to take a step back, breathe, reevaluate and indulge in some self care!
