Indiana’s Hanover College suspends effort to open veterinary school
Hanover College’s ambitious plan to launch a veterinary school in Indiana that combined remote and in-person instruction has been paused due to new accreditation rules limiting distance education in veterinary programs. The initiative, first announced in late 2023, would have been the first veterinary school in the U.S. to implement a hybrid learning model.
UMES Veterinary School Set for 2026 Accreditation Review
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s School of Veterinary Medicine is approaching a key point in its effort to secure accreditation for what will become Maryland’s first veterinary school. The institution will undergo a full accreditation site review by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education from June 21 through June 26, 2026, according to information released by the university.

More equine herpes virus cases confirmed in Texas outbreak linked to Waco event
Texas veterinarians are tracking an expanding cluster of Equine Herpesvirus-1 cases following an initial exposure in Waco. The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has confirmed four Texas cases to date. The outbreak has been traced to a horse that competed at the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association World Finals and Elite Barrel Race at the Extraco Events Center from November 5–9.
LSU Vet Med Treating Three Texas Horses Quarantined with Confirmed EHV-1
Cases of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) has been confirmed by equine veterinary clinics in Texas, with cases traced to a recent equine competition in Waco. Three horses from Texas that participated in that event are currently quarantined at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and receiving treatment for confirmed EHV-1.
