Researchers at Indiana University School of Medicine diagnose a Sumatran Orangutan at the Indianapolis Zoo with the rare genetic disease Alkaptonuria, a first-ever confirmation in a primate other than humans. The diagnosis allows for better care and treatment of the orangutan named Mila, who showed the primary symptom of dark urine. Veterinarians can now focus on monitoring her health and providing timely interventions.
