FDA Approves First Generic Robenacoxib Tablet for Postoperative Pain & Inflammation in Cats

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the first generic robenacoxib tablets for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery, ovariohysterectomy and castration in cats at least four months of age that weigh at least 5.5 pounds.

Robenacoxib tablets contain the same active ingredient (robenacoxib) as the approved brand name drug product, Onsior, which was first approved in 2011. The FDA determined that Robencoxib tablets are bioequivalent to the brand name product.

Robenacoxib tablets are a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and are only available via a prescription from a licensed veterinarian. Robenacoxib tablets can be given for up to three days.

Robenacoxib tablets are sponsored by ZyVet Animal Health, Inc., based in Pennington, New Jersey.
