MSU Vet Tech Program Just Took the National Spotlight — Here’s Why

Morehead State University’s veterinary technology program is officially turning heads nationwide. Already ranked the best in Kentucky and #13 in the U.S., the program has now been named Program of the Year by the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators (AVTE) at its 2025 Professional Awards.

The AVTE honors programs that show exceptional leadership, innovation, and collaboration in veterinary technician education, and MSU’s program impressed a blinded committee with its creative learning opportunities and career-focused training.

As part of MSU’s campus revitalization, the Derrickson Agricultural Complex is getting a major upgrade. Expanded labs and modern classrooms, set to be completed by December 2025, will give students even more hands-on experience and prepare them to thrive in a competitive veterinary technology field.

Graduates from the program are highly sought after, and the faculty’s dedication to excellence ensures that students leave with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in veterinary medicine.
