Virginia Tech Honors Dr. Giulio Menciotti with Anne Hunter Endowed Professorship in Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Giulio Menciotti, assistant professor of cardiology at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, has been awarded the prestigious Anne Hunter Endowed Professorship in Veterinary Medicine by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
Established in 1990 through a gift from Anne Hunter, the endowed professorship aims to attract and retain distinguished scholars in small animal medicine, with a particular focus on feline medicine and research.
Dr. Menciotti, a member of the Virginia Tech community since 2013, is board certified in cardiology by both the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Companion Animals. His research has significantly advanced feline health, including studies on the diagnostic accuracy of vertebral heart scores and radiographic indices for detecting cardiac enlargement in cats, as well as investigations into hemostasis in hyperthyroid cats.
He has served as principal investigator or co-investigator on 17 extramural research grants totaling over $7 million and has published 29 refereed articles along with 23 abstracts. His expertise has also been showcased through numerous invited presentations and continuing education events.
In addition to his research, Dr. Menciotti is recognized for excellence in teaching, providing instruction in small animal cardiology to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students, interns, and residents, both in the classroom and at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Menciotti earned his bachelor’s degree from A. Pedrollo Conservatory in Italy and both his master’s degree and Ph.D. from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech.
