New Veterinary Degree Course Launches in Ireland
Atlantic Technological University (ATU) has announced the launch of a new veterinary degree program, expanding opportunities for students to pursue veterinary medicine within Ireland. The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) program is scheduled to begin next autumn, with applications opening later this year.
The program has been designed to meet Irish, UK, and European veterinary standards, ensuring graduates are well prepared to practice both domestically and internationally. Initially, 40 places will be available, providing a pathway for students who previously had to seek training abroad.
Classes will be primarily based at ATU’s Letterkenny campus in Donegal, with one semester taught at Mountbellew Agricultural College in County Galway. The curriculum will emphasize early clinical exposure and a systems-based approach, giving students practical experience from the outset of their studies.
The introduction of this program is expected to broaden access to veterinary education while also strengthening the availability of veterinary services in rural communities. By creating new opportunities within Ireland, ATU’s BVMS aims to contribute to the development of a resilient, skilled, and globally connected veterinary workforce.
