A Former Electronics Store Will Soon Be a State-of-the-Art Vet Clinic—Here’s What You Need to Know About Midwestern University’s Big Plans

Midwestern University is bringing a major addition to its Downers Grove campus: a brand-new Companion Animal Clinic, designed to offer advanced veterinary care while training the next generation of animal healthcare professionals. Scheduled to open in Spring 2027, this 152,000-square-foot facility is set to transform a former Fry’s Electronics building into one of the region’s most modern veterinary centers.

But this isn’t just another clinic—it’s the foundation for Midwestern’s proposed College of Veterinary Medicine-Illinois, pending accreditation by the AVMA Council on Education. If approved, the first class of veterinary students will begin in August 2027.

Affordable Pet Care Meets Hands-On Education

The clinic will offer affordable, high-quality care for dogs, cats, and other companion animals—providing everything from routine wellness exams and preventive services to specialty care in areas like:

  • Dentistry

  • Surgery

  • Oncology

  • Orthopedics

Equipped with cutting-edge diagnostics and treatment technologies, the facility will also serve as a real-world training ground for veterinary students. Under the guidance of experienced faculty, students will gain essential clinical experience while delivering compassionate care to local pets.

A New Home for a Growing Vision

Located at 3300 Finley Road, the Companion Animal Clinic is part of a broader initiative to expand Midwestern University’s footprint in healthcare education and community service. The university already operates a Multispecialty Clinic on campus, offering services in dentistry, family medicine, physical therapy, and more.

The new veterinary clinic continues that mission—blending education, service, and accessibility to create a win-win for students and local pet owners alike.

What’s Next?

While construction progresses, the university will release more information about hours of operation, appointment scheduling, and specific services. In the meantime, prospective veterinary students and community members alike can look forward to a facility that’s set to redefine what veterinary care looks like in the western suburbs of Chicago.

The future of pet care—and veterinary education—in Downers Grove is looking bright.
