Santa Barbara Humane’s Mobile Veterinary Unit Brings Free Spay/Neuter Services to Underserved Areas

Santa Barbara Humane is expanding its efforts to tackle pet overpopulation with the launch of its new Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic, offering free spay/neuter surgeries to pet owners in underserved communities. The mobile unit is currently providing these services to areas such as Guadalupe, Lompoc, Nipomo, and Casmalia, helping to improve access to essential veterinary care and reduce shelter overcrowding.

The initiative is a direct response to the need for accessible, affordable veterinary services in remote areas. Santa Barbara Humane’s Mobile Veterinary Clinic has been in use since 2024, and last year, it successfully completed 226 surgeries for Santa Barbara County Animal Services, helping to address a backlog of unaltered animals.

In 2025, the clinic is expanding its services, offering free spay/neuter surgeries for a limited time to help more pets stay healthy and prevent overpopulation. Dr. Katie Marrie, Chief Veterinary Officer at Santa Barbara Humane, shared her excitement about the new program: "We’re thrilled to roll out our Mobile Veterinary Clinic and extend critical care to pets in remote, underserved areas."

While the free surgeries will only be available for a limited time, Santa Barbara Humane will continue to offer low-cost and free spay/neuter options for those in need.

The Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic is currently stationed at various locations, including Jack O’Connell Park in Guadalupe, Santa Barbara County Animal Services in Lompoc and Santa Maria, and Hitching Post in Casmalia. Pet owners can view the schedule and sign up for appointments on the Santa Barbara Humane website.
