How Ashli Selke’s Neurodivergent Superpower Is Revolutionizing Veterinary Medicine

Ashli Selke is a force of nature in veterinary medicine—a trailblazer whose neurodivergent mind powers her mission to transform the profession from the inside out. With ADHD fueling her hyperfocus and pattern recognition superpowers, Selke effortlessly navigates complex regulatory landscapes, uncovering solutions that many neurotypical thinkers might overlook.

From Purdue to Purpose: A New Chapter in Veterinary Advocacy

Previously an Instructional Technologist at Purdue University, Selke has since embarked on a new venture: VIBE Vet, a project dedicated to fostering inclusive leadership within veterinary teams. This initiative reflects her unwavering commitment to empowering veterinary professionals and advocating for systemic change.

A Mission Fueled by Neurodivergence

Selke's journey is deeply rooted in her neurodivergent experiences. Diagnosed with ADHD later in life, she discovered that her brain's unique wiring enabled her to excel in areas such as statutory interpretation and regulatory drafting. This realization led her to pursue a Master’s in Legal Studies, equipping her with the tools to effect meaningful change in veterinary governance.

Her advocacy efforts have been instrumental in advancing the rights and recognition of veterinary technicians. As a former President of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), Selke spearheaded initiatives to secure title protection and expand the scope of practice for technicians across the United States.

The VIBE Vet Vision: Inclusive Leadership for All

Through VIBE Vet, Selke aims to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for veterinary professionals. The project focuses on:

  • Inclusive Leadership: Promoting leadership styles that value diverse perspectives and experiences.

  • Empowerment: Providing resources and support to help veterinary professionals thrive in their roles.

  • Advocacy: Championing policies and practices that ensure equitable treatment and opportunities for all team members.

By fostering a culture of inclusivity, VIBE Vet seeks to address issues such as burnout and turnover, ultimately enhancing patient care and team satisfaction.

A Legacy of Leadership and Advocacy

Selke's impact extends beyond her current endeavors. Her previous roles include serving as the RVT representative on Indiana’s Veterinary Medical Board and as a member of various state and national committees. Her work has consistently centered on elevating the role of veterinary technicians and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Empowered Veterinary Professionals

As Selke continues her work with VIBE Vet, she remains steadfast in her mission to transform veterinary medicine. Her neurodivergent strengths, combined with her legal expertise and leadership experience, position her to drive lasting change in the profession.
